Payment Gateways Make Credit Sales Possible this Easter

South Portland, ME (PRWEB) February 28, 2013

Whether sending a gift card or gift basket, a greeting card, or some discounted confections, when someone shops online for their Easter goodies, they usually have to pay for their purchase with a credit card. There are other alternatives, such as PayPal, but the majority of shoppers use one of their credit cards to complete their purchases. However, a payment gateway is crucial in making sure that the businessperson can properly track customer information, according to Matt Tasker, owner of Tasker Payment Gateways.

Mr. Tasker suggests that site owners use the same point of contact for the credit card processor and gateway, so that you avoid he said/she said issues. In addition, he says that you can avoid additional fees that often accompany use of multiple vendors.

Point of Sale

A payment gateway, such as Authorize.net or NMI, will encrypt any sensitive information that passes through the system, similar to a Point of Sale, or POS system in a store. The information such as credit card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV numbers are passed securely between the shopping cart and the merchant account. The gateway will send the information to the bank that sponsors the card. There, it will seek approval for the purchase, and then return the information to the merchant for completion of the transaction. In a store, the cashier handles all of this at the POS.

Mr. Tasker said that one of the premier features of a good payment gateway, such as Authorize.net or Network Merchants Inc., is fraud screening. Internet sales account for the majority of credit card fraud, and screening by merchants is a high priority. During a busy holiday season, consumers must be acutely aware of the potential for fraud. Built in fraud detection from payment gateways help alleviate some of the risk at a time when individuals may easily be distracted. A gateway can automatically decline a transaction if it fails to pass the AVS and CVV check.

In addition, Mr. Tasker said that the payment gateway will capture and store the transaction info in case you need to issue a refund. This keeps track of online payments, protecting the merchant and the consumer, as well.

Another common feature of a payment gateway is the ability to formulate recurring billing for a customer. This simplifies the burden of PCI Compliance on the merchant. He wont have to store credit card information and maintain the security required to issue monthly or regular billings. Before a merchant launches a new campaign such as one for the upcoming Easter holiday, they may want to double check and verify that their payment gateway is up to the task.

Matt Tasker, owner of Tasker Payment Gateways, offers payment gateways such as Authnet and NMI for online merchants on a nationwide basis. For more information about his services or about payment gateways in general, contact Mr. Tasker on his website, or at 207.772.8737.
