Question by m.d.k^: How does this story-line sound to you? Would you read it?
I have this idea that came to my last night in the shower (don’t ask me why).

Basically, I was thinking about a group of small, tropical islands with two different tribes: one for women and the other for men. Both tribes would have a group leader, which would live on the center island with the other, almost ‘royalty’ and wise elders. Other normal tribe members would live on the other left over islands and each would produce its own special thing, e.g wood for trading. In tradition, they were paired with a person of the opposite sex in the different tribe to spend the rest of their life with and marry and they’d be best friends from birth. If they had children, the girl would spend most of her time with the girl tribe, learning how to clean, cook, wash etc and play with her soul-partner. And the same goes for the boys, except they would learn how to fight, make things etc. But they’d still have time to play with their pair and all families would live together as one, but learn seperately.

It wouldn’t be exactly WRONG to become gay there, but no-one has ever done it so they don’t even know what it is and can’t really picture it. [If anyone has seen "The Invention Of Lying", it's like that]. There would be these two girls who were best friends but finally became closer, even though they both had pairings. They try to keep their romance a secret but once it comes out they run away together.

Does this seem good to you? Ofcourse, I’m going to need some sub-plots but I’d be grateful if you would comment and make some suggestions. :)

you mean “they swim away together” as they are on an island.

Sounds okay , not very original but nothing is anyway so go for it!
