And contrary to what many readers seemed to get out of the book (or out of their reading of the reviews only), the author’s message isn’t about being greedy, but about acquiring freedom and then using that freedom for something that benefits both you and others at the same time. Pointless drudgery and suffering for the sake of it is, pointless.

It is mandatory to award at least one star in order to submit this review and it pains me to award even that much. Reading this book is not a total waste of time and money, but pretty close. Especially since there is never a guarantee that a business you attempt to start will work out. That is why it is not often done.

However, be smart about it and know when to get out, move on, or come up with a better idea. The 4- Hour Workweek is an interesting book written by a young and interesting guy by the name of Timothy Ferriss. Just read the other 1 star reviews, they hit most of the points. The book has a few great ideas and philosophies, but they are mired in idiotic and irrelevant tips and anecdotes. You have to do a lot of the work yourself, in order to be able to outsource it eventually. He says that (though I think he glosses over how much initial work is required.) Most people aren’t willing to work extremely hard and do all the research and legwork necessary to get a business to the point where it is almost passive income. After some time she returns all excited and wants to show me something. When we get there it’s a very cute (her words not mine) ensemble of bright colors and some design work. What makes this book different, and worth purchasing, is the repurposing of these techniques. Ferriss doesn’t tell you how to make a successful small business; he shows you how to build a small business that you can hand off to others to manage, allowing you to follow your “dream lines”. It’s easier said than done. Written in a fun, engaging style, I would file this under financial porn. A little later, when he is discussing how you can get your boss to agree to your working from home, he recommends minimizing your productivity on the days you’re in the office, and maximizing them when you’re at home. Other examples are cited in other reviews.

Usually, small business people see their businesses and work as a creative activity that energizes them. I do admire the book’s title. But after a few chapters, the book seems more like an infomercial than a literary work. Ferriss spends the first four chapters of the book redefining success in his own terms.

Though I did like parts of T4HWW, there’s a lot to dislike about Ferriss’s book. It would have been better without the 100-page get-rich-quick scheme.

If you know of something you’d like to sell online, this book could have some purpose as far as designing your business model. For everyone else, I recommend avoiding it altogether.

The list goes on as does the new information in the book. This one is a must read for anyone who wants to break the slave-save-retire cycle and live on purpose now.

I sat down with this book and read until the wee hours of the morning. DOG FOOD SUPPLIERS.
