This is me

Hi, I work on the web.
It all started out way back in 1996, in Belgium. First a hobby, then a part-time job, self-employed. I loved the possibilities the web had to offer, the unruliness, the openness. It was new (in Belgium), but slow. Netscape was hot. Computers expensive.
I got my break early on, in 1997 when I joined a young start-up company which had lots of potential. We did e-commerce, developing online payment systems. We survived the bubble burst a couple of years later, and kept on growing.
Ten years on I find myself halfway around the world, in Sydney. All because of the web, its opportunities. And the Sydney web community is very much alive, with lots of talented people to learn from, which keeps me as passionate as ever before, to learn, find out more about anything web related. I’d loved to be more involved in the community. But I’m pretty shy to begin with, and a language barrier doesn’t help.
I can only guess what the next ten years will bring for me, or where the web will take me next.
