Question by Adam D: If you were the GM of the 49ers, or your fav. football team, how would you go about the draft this year?
So, being a 49er fan, I’ve had to endure bad decisions from the team for almost a decade now. Next season will be Jed York’s first as owner, and Singletary’s first (full season) as head coach, so we are all excited and hoping to see if things will turn around.

If you were the G.M. of your favorite team, what would you do this offseason, or what do you think your team will do? How will they approach the draft?

I always look at the Mock Drafts, and they’re almost completely pointless. I see them now, and they think the 49ers will draft a QB in the first round. Now, I don’t know if that is the right decision for the 49ers. Alex Smith was a bust, and in part, because we didn’t have an offensive line that could protect him. We still don’t have an O-Line, so I would think that the niners should draft one, but there are 3 or 4 other teams that will probably draft one before S.F.

SO, if they can’t get a good O-Lineman in the 1st round, would is be smart to trade down and get some more draft picks… the niners have pressing needs every where.

Or, should they draft a DT? B.J. Raji is a top notch D-lineman. The niners need help on the D-Line too. Raji is one of the top 5 (elite) players coming out of the draft.

So, would you pass on Raji, and take the QB when you have no O-Line? Or trade down and get more picks?

I would take B.J. with the first pick, and try and get another lineman later in the draft, or free agency… wait for the Q.B. next year and give Shaun Hill a legitimate chance to be our Q.B. this year.
Yeah, I don’t think Cassel is a franchise QB. He is good, and there’s no doubt he would be an upgrade to S.F., but the fact still remains, that he would get eaten alive from there poor O-Line. And, I think if a team signs him, then they have to give the Pats 2 first round draft picks. That’s too much for him…. and I think the Pat’s and there fans have a conspiracy to build up Cassel as much as they can, so that someone will try to sign, or trade for him.

I would like to see them get Boldin or another receiver in free agency, and then draft a bigger Receiver to play along side Boldin, so he can get up on those corner routes in the end zone, like Fitzgerald.

The Lions definitely need that O-lineman. He’s a sure thing… or they can trade down and get some more picks, cuz they’re hurting everywhere.

I’d trade my Bills 11th pick for a pass rusher and take a TE in the second round. Those are the most pressing needs facing them.
