Question by Jeana: Do you like this poem? What are your favorite line(s)? Why are they your favorite line(s)?
Do you know who wrote this poem when it was wrote?
————–
Today I ranaway
from everything
I left the people I loved
I left the people I hated
I left the things I bought
and the things I traded
I was sick of all the fire
and waiting on the rain
I remembered all I have lost
but forgot everything I gained
I left the things that were nice
along with the things that were mean
I left the things that made no sense
and the things that have lots of meaning to me
I left the things that scared me
and the people who took care of me
I disposed of my paper
then of my pen
I had wrote more at the beginning
than I ever will at the end
It’s never really over
the battle inside of me just began
the paper is my target
and my weapon are my poems
I have my own beliefs
just like everyone
everything on my mind
is everything that matters
but noone is going to win
but when the battle is “over”
it all just depends…
As my feet slam against the pavement
my heart beats
… like a drum
beating irregular
over and over again
(it all didnt fit)

no idea who wrote it, but i like pieces of it. Towards the end it goes in another direction of what seems like the main idea.
I think the poem would sound better without the “today I ranaway from everything” which sounds too much like a bad teen movie.
Some lines sound like they were just put there because they rhyme with the rest of the poem, such as:
I left the things I bought
and the things I traded
and some lines aren’t detailed enough for a poem
I left the things that were nice
along with the things that were mean
I believe the word “nice” should never, ever be used in a poem. Too common and too boring.
My fav lines:
I was sick of all the fire
and waiting on the rain
I remembered all I have lost
but forgot everything I gained
I had wrote more at the beginning
than I ever will at the end
Overall I do like the poem, but I think it should be to seperate poems, one with the “I left” theme and one with the paper and pen theme.
Sorry, I’m critiqing it like I wrote it but it’s a habit of mine to look at something and think of how I would change it if it was mine.
