Question by AlexTheCaliforniaChild: Would writing this be line crossing?
Okay I am writing a book and someday I would like it to be published so I want people opinions on this. Okay in the book the main character is a normal average girl but a less main character is this gay guy, he is wild, does not care about anyone else, and is a slut. In the book he does not want to come out of the closest (all the other characters knows he is gay though but he does not know that) so his boy cousin uses that to his advantage and starts to trade sex with his cousin for stuff he wants someone to do for him but cant trust other people to do because it is so important. The book so far has been in between a PG and PG-13 rating. I would not go into any sexual detail but I would make it clear what was going on between them and would not make it vague like some writers do with non G rated stuff. Oh ya at the beginning of the book and had him kiss another guy and the other characters have talked about him being gay so if you were say reading the book you would not be shocked all of a sudden like omb that characters gay. I also don’t want the book to have a ton of gay content in it because I know most people hate that.
Ya I know I suck at trying to explain things but when I write fiction or poems I am actually good at it, and trust me I am not a delusional person with an ego. I am actually the opposite, I actually beat myself up about what I write, then I will send it to people to see what they think and they really like it and I know there telling the truth because one of the people I send my writing to would never lie and when she does not like something let me just say she is more then blunt about it. Ha ha that’s why she gets in a ton of fights with people (even though that extremely off topic.)
1. I am not trying to shock people. That is actually what I do not want to do. That is why I am really considering not adding it
2. I actually have not thought about the audience at all until this point, which was what I started to worry about because I was like crap Luke’s character is already outrageous and a slut (not your typical “safe” gay character) , the thing with his cousin might be taking things a bit too far.
3. Um I in no way think adding a gay character makes it more mature I actually do not see how that would make sense in any way shape or form.
I do not mind people criticizing me, I am just trying to clarify I do not think somethings you assume.

If your book is written with the same style as your question I would not read your book already.
